Nebraska Realtor ListingsFollowing the Mexican War in 1848, western Nebraska was acquired by treaty. The Union Pacific railroad began its transcontinental line at Omaha in 1865. In 1937, Nebraska became the only state in the Union to have a one-house legislature. Foreign fur traders first came to Nebraska in the late 1600s. Part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, eastern Nebraska was explored by the famous expedition of Lewis and Clark in 1804–1806. Some of Nebraska's leading industry includes electronic components, auto parts, pharmaceuticals, and manufactured homes. Oil and natural gas are also produced here.
